Why This Student Film Project Matters

Life at Your School is a student-led educational film about mental health, identity, and grief. Created by students, for students. The project empowers real high schoolers to cast, crew, and tell their own stories, while working alongside professional filmmakers who mentor them through the production process. To read more about the Life At Your School campaign, visit the student series here.

This initiative responds to a growing mental health crisis among teens. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 40% of U.S. high school students report persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness, and nearly 1 in 5 have seriously considered suicide. Schools are one of the most important places to intervene by creating spaces where students feel heard, supported, and connected.

Through filmmaking and storytelling, Life at Your School gives students the opportunity to explore the pressures they fac, anxiety, identity, grief, and the fear of not belonging all while discovering that many of their peers are experiencing the same struggles.

Research shows that when students feel a strong sense of belonging at school, they demonstrate higher wellbeing, stronger engagement, and improved academic outcomes. Programs centered around storytelling and the arts also increase empathy, collaboration, and confidence in young people.

By supporting Life at Your School, sponsors help amplify youth voices, strengthen school communities, and invest in the next generation of leaders and storytellers.

Your contribution today ensures that these students gain hands-on filmmaking experience, a personal letter of recommendation, and a professional reference, giving them a meaningful advantage as they step into adulthood.
